Syd Mead X Addict Special Edition

Syd Mead lives in Pasadena where he continues to work from his home studio. His immeasurable talent is most easily accessed via his work in iconic movies like Tron (© Walt Disney 1982) and Ridley Scott’s Bladerunner (© Warner Bros Studios 1982) but Syd Mead’s cultural contributions are not limited to solely these memorable films - as epochal as they are. His career has seen him globe-trotting via art exhibitions and design symposia for some decades now. And longevity is telling.

What’s the overall secret of career longevity? “Part of that is just being around,” Syd Mead chuckles, “that and having a steady supply of some of the worlds largest global companies as clients – The visibility which ensues from that kind of involvement goes horizontal.”

What does the man himself make of the credit ‘Visual Futurist’?”I’m fortunate that I was able to establish a visceral visual look at the ‘future’ that became verywide-spread, thereby allowing my style, my name and my reputation to enlarge into many commercial areas of endeavor.”

He reflects further: “I started my visibility trail in the early sixties, before the widespread adaptation of ‘future’ was merged with commercial advertisingand promotion. It was that old ‘right time, right place with the right people’ situation.”

Working closely alongside Syd Mead, we’ve developed two repeat all over printpatterns derived from two of his black and white illustrations.
